{"id":14519,"date":"2022-04-14T15:03:26","date_gmt":"2022-04-14T15:03:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pmcg.pt\/?p=14519"},"modified":"2022-04-14T15:03:26","modified_gmt":"2022-04-14T15:03:26","slug":"tax-and-customs-authority-at-simplifies-tax-residency-certification-for-the-purposes-of-a-double-taxation-treaty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pmcg.pt\/en\/tax-and-customs-authority-at-simplifies-tax-residency-certification-for-the-purposes-of-a-double-taxation-treaty\/","title":{"rendered":"Tax and Customs Authority (AT) simplifies tax residency certification for the purposes of a double taxation treaty"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14522\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pmcg.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/img_1280x7202019_06_05_16_15_26_355235.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pmcg.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/img_1280x7202019_06_05_16_15_26_355235.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/www.pmcg.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/img_1280x7202019_06_05_16_15_26_355235-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pmcg.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/img_1280x7202019_06_05_16_15_26_355235-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/>Tax and Customs Authority (AT) simplifies tax residency certification for the purposes of a double taxation treaty<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As you might already know those who are deemed to be a resident in Portugal are subject to tax on their worldwide income, which can result on the phenomenon of international double taxation.<\/p>\n<p>In order to avoid that, Portugal has celebrated double taxation treaties with many countries.<\/p>\n<p>To benefit from these treaties one must prove where they actually reside.<\/p>\n<p>The Tax and Customs Authority (AT) has then simplified the procedure of obtaining a certificate that proves the Portuguese residency alongside the other tax jurisdictions.<\/p>\n<p>Since January 1<sup>st<\/sup> 2022 it is no longer necessary to send any forms to the AT, nor wait for their postal return.<\/p>\n<p>All one has to do is simply go to the Finance Portal and request the certificate.<\/p>\n<p>Here is how the request is made:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Authenticate yourself with your NIF (tax identification number) and personal password.<\/li>\n<li>Just write the word \u201ccertid\u00e3o\/certificate\u201d in the search field and press \u201cpedir certid\u00e3o\/request certificate and then \u201cresid\u00eancia fiscal\/tax residence\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Fill in all the requested fields and do not press check on anything in field Q5, where the existence of a foreign form is mentioned.<\/li>\n<li>Confirm the request<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The certificate should be delivered automatically after confirming the request.<\/p>\n<p>The AT calls attention that this is the only document that certifies the tax residency in Portugal for the purposes of benefiting from the double taxation treaties.<\/p>\n<p>Besides that, it should be noted that the certificate is given per tax year, which means that this tax document must be requested yearly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tax and Customs Authority (AT) simplifies tax residency certification for the purposes of a double taxation treaty As you might already&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":14524,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[52,431,37,221,430],"tags":[],"class_list":{"0":"post-14519","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-articles","8":"category-immigration","9":"category-legal-present","10":"category-news","11":"category-taxation"},"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
